Roberts Woods of Calke Abbey Racing Stables near Swadlincote has been jailed for 21 months for growing and selling cannabis.

In a raid on 9th July police found nearly 200 plants with a street value of £28,000 at Mr Woods horse traing yard which is also his home.

The 55 year old racehorse trainer was using the £400 a week income from selling the drug to try and repay a £183,000 debt to a loan shark.

Defence solicitor Avik Mukherjee called it a crime for “need rather than greed”.

Mr Robert Woods has been ordered to pay £21,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
