A woman who leaves a radio on to calm her horses as been contacted by the Performing Right Society (PRS) and has been asked to pay a licence fee.

As Mrs Greenaway employs more than two staff the PRS have said that she must pay for a public performance licence at a cost of £99 per year.

According to Mrs Greenaway the staff at the Malthouse Equestrian Centre in Bushton, Wiltshire don’t even listen to the radio as she leaves it tuned into Classic FM. The music is purely for the benefit of keeping the horses calm.

The radio is now left switched off apart from on Sundays when there are no staff at the stable yard.

My Little Freaky Pony

By Caroline On March 24th, 2009 in Wierd World of Horses /

I stumbled across this ‘artist’ and can honestly say that I’ve never seen anything quite like her ‘work’ before.

Mari Kasurinen is an art student from Finland who takes My Little Ponies then modifies them to look like well known movie characters. We’re not talking Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. More Edward Scissor Hands, Alien, Catwoman and many others.

Art is in the eye of the beholder as we all know so this is just my opinion but isn’t this a little beyond strange? Mind you not as strange as the people who are parting with cash for these creations.

If you’re curious to see what the others look like take a look at Mari Kasurinen,

By Caroline On March 17th, 2009 in Wierd World of Horses /

Reggie the spider monkey has escaped fom Liebling Bros Family Circus where he performs as a horse jockey after becoming upset during a row.

The monkeys handler was arguing with an animal rights protester outside his cage near Fruitland Park when Reggie fled.

Florida Fish and Wildlife authorities have suggested that Hugo Liebel, the monkeys owner could be prosecuted for letting him escape.

Repeated searches have so far failed to bring Reggie home and his trainers are now trying to lure him back into captivity with his pregnant girlfriend.

Circus owner Franciszka Liebel said:

“I think he’s confused and lonely.”

Runaway Horse Gallops through Paris Streets

By Caroline On February 27th, 2009 in Equestrian News, Wierd World of Horses /

An escaped French military horse has become an internet star after ditching his rider and taking off through the streets of Paris.

15 Year old chestnut stallion Garibaldi was part of a routine patrol at the Elysee Palace when he ran off. His Republican Guard rider fell to the ground and Garibaldi set off on his tour of the Paris sights.

He made his way up the Place de la Concorde before heading onto the banks of the river Seine. The horse then arrived at the Louvre museum where he fell after skidding to avoid a lorry.

A police patrol car followed the horse and when it was safe to do so an officer leaned out of the window and grabbed his bridle, finally bringing Garibaldi to a halt.
He escaped from his adventure with only a few superficial wounds.

Taking Ecstasy No Worse Than Horse Riding

By Caroline On February 9th, 2009 in Equestrian News, Wierd World of Horses /

The chairman of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) has stated in the Journal of Psychopharmacology that taking ecstasy is no more dangerous than horse riding.

Professor Nutt said that horse riding accounts for over 100 deaths per year whereas ecstasy is associated with 30 deaths per year. His point is to raise the question of why society tolerates some types of potential harmful behavior but not others.

Nutt states:

“Drug harm can be equal to harms in other parts of life. There is not much difference between horse-riding and ecstasy.”

It is likely that next week the ACMD will recommend that ecstasy is downgraded from a class A to a class B drug though ministers are opposed to this.
