A one year old filly was found unconscious last Tuesday near the A414 in Hatfield.
She was badly emaciated to the point where one of her eyes had prolapsed. Her tail had also been cut. She was in such a bad state that she was put to sleep at the scene.
A PC who attended the incident was so upset that she called a local paper to break the news.
PC Wakelen said:
“This neglect will not be permitted and, under the Animal Welfare Act, owners can now be arrested and prosecuted.”
A number of other horses live on the land where the filly was found and it believed that they belong to travelers living at Holwell caravan park.
In 2008 another horse died at the site after being neglected for weeks.

A woman who leaves a radio on to calm her horses as been contacted by the Performing Right Society (PRS) and has been asked to pay a licence fee.
As Mrs Greenaway employs more than two staff the PRS have said that she must pay for a public performance licence at a cost of £99 per year.
According to Mrs Greenaway the staff at the Malthouse Equestrian Centre in Bushton, Wiltshire don’t even listen to the radio as she leaves it tuned into Classic FM. The music is purely for the benefit of keeping the horses calm.
The radio is now left switched off apart from on Sundays when there are no staff at the stable yard.
16.1h Clydesdale gelding, Boo, was blinded in January after being shot in the eye with an air gun. He had already lost his other eye to cancer so it was particularly cruel to have been shot in his one good eye.
Boo’s owner were struggling to cope with the day to day management of a blind horse and were worried that he might have to be put down.
They approached Redwings horse sanctuary who agreed to take him in. Redwings have facilities for caring for blind and partially sighted horses so Boo will be in good hands.

I stumbled across this ‘artist’ and can honestly say that I’ve never seen anything quite like her ‘work’ before.
Mari Kasurinen is an art student from Finland who takes My Little Ponies then modifies them to look like well known movie characters. We’re not talking Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. More Edward Scissor Hands, Alien, Catwoman and many others.

Art is in the eye of the beholder as we all know so this is just my opinion but isn’t this a little beyond strange? Mind you not as strange as the people who are parting with cash for these creations.
If you’re curious to see what the others look like take a look at Mari Kasurinen,
